All-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler: The Most Capable SUV Ever

All-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler: The Most Capable SUV Ever

The Jeep Wrangler is easily the most recognized vehicle on the planet. And no wonder. Over its 75 year history it's been used by military around the globe, by explorers in jungles, mountains, and deserts have staked their lives on Jeep's reputation, by the RSMC to deliver the mail, by enthusiasts who love to hit the Rubicon Trail or climb the rocks at Moab, and by moms and dads across Canada dropping off their kids at school each day.

The Trail Rated 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK turns it up a notch and more. The Wrangler JK continues with its classic round headlamps, seven-slot grille, trapezoid wheel flares, removable doors, exposed hinges, a fold-down windshield all on a rugged body-onframe construction.

Further it's equipped with front and rear fivelink suspension systems, live axles, electronic lockers, and is one of the few midsize SUVs that give drivers a choice between a six-speed manual or a five-speed automatic transmission. Wrangler is also available with 3.21, 3.73 or 4.10 axle gear ratios from which customers can select, based on their needs and the particular model.

Powerful Engine Tuned For Maximum Torque

Powered by Canada's favorite engine, the 3.6 L Pentastar V6 that delivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, the engine has been specially-tuned for the Wrangler to provide a broad torque band with a focus on low-end torque. The sturdy frame, powerful engine, and rugged drivetrain provide Wrangler with up to 3500 lbs of towing capacity.

Of course the 2018 Wrangler JK continues the Jeep tradition of maneuverability. It features an available best-in-class approach angle of 42.2 degrees, breakover angle of 25.8 degrees and departure angle of 32.3 degrees, nearly identical to the original Willys MB "Jeep" of WWII.

Five Models of Wrangler JK for 2018

For 2018, the Wrangler JK lineup consists of five models: Sport, Sport S, Willys Wheeler, Sahara, and Rubicon.

The capable driveline of the Sport, Sport S, and Sahara models consists of a Dana 30 front axle and the legendary Dana 44 rear axle. The Command-Trac  NV241, part-time, two-speed transfer case, features a 2.72:1 low range gear ratio. In addition, an optional TracLok limited-slip rear differential provides extra grip in low traction environments such as sand, mud or snow.

The Wrangler JK Rubicon Recon model includes an upgraded front axle, sturdier off-road rock rails, heavy-duty cast differential covers, Dana 44 front and rear axles along with a RockTrac NV241 two speed transfer case with a 4.0:1 low range gear ratio. Rubicon Recon also includes electric front and rear locking differentials, disconnecting front sway bar, and 32-inch BFGoodrich KM off-road tires, taking the Wrangler JK to the highest level of capability.

In addition, standard equipment includes electronic stability control (ESC), electronic roll mitigation, trailer-sway control, Hill-start Assist and brake traction control are among two dozen other available safety and security features.

And just for good measure, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK features a standard eight-speaker audio system and an optional Premium Alpine Audio Package that includes nine Alpine speakers, a subwoofer and a 552-watt amplifier.

There's so much more to the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK like the new Golden eagle and Altitude Editions, the 10 available exterior colors, three unique interior combinations, and a new JK decal by the driver's side front fender.
